Akai 1710 power/fuse issue

First of all, I'm very excited to be here. This place is a huge source of knowledge, and I have A LOT to learn.

I recently acquired an Akai 1710 reel to reel japanese model (w/ selectable voltage switch). The unit worked for about an hour until the fuse blew (2A 125V). When inspecting the unit I noticed the voltage switch was set to 110V instead of 120V. I could not find a 2A 125V fuse, so I went with a 2A 250V fuse. With voltage switch set to 120V, the 250V fuse allows the machine to power on for a few seconds before blowing the fuse again.

The 250V fuse should be ok as a replacement, and raising the voltage switch higher than 120V wouldn't make a difference since the source output is 120, right?

Any suggestions on why a fuse would keep blowing like this? I only have an elementary understanding, building pedals and such from schematics, so this is way out of my league.

I would appreciate any help, I just need some guidance. Thanks.
