Ak4495 boards?

The first option is without usb. Option 3 is xmos

Does the dac with ac input have a rectifier built into the circuit?
It has to have a rectifier built in to convert ac to dc.
Better to stick with the board I recommended as the design is well executed unlike most of the 4490/4495 dacs on ebay.
Better to go with a well designed board with 4495 dac than one that is less well designed with 4490.

Not trying to be a smart a**... but what qualifies the board you suggest as well executed and others not?
1) Listening to both board types in a highly revealing system.
2) General info on here and other sources about most of the standard Ebay 4490/4495 boards and how relatively poor their design is.
I have 3 of the standard (Weiliang designed) boards and I do think the basic I2S input boards at around $50 US are good value for money but they do require a bit of work to get the best out of them. Having done that work the boards from the supplier I suggested sound much better straight 'out of the box'.

Is there an easy way to convert the spdif output of the nandigi to the i2s input that many of these dac boards seem to have?

Happy to spend extra money to get a better product but I also need to be conscious of the fact that i will need 3 or 4 of these dacs for my system. Plus im time poor so the less soldering time required the better!

If you take into account of i2s wiring, you're also going to take into account of your own chassis and power supply work.

If you willing to do your own chassis and power supply work, you can buy spdif->i2s converters below along with those bare AK4490/5 boards as much as you want:

AK4113 Digital Receiver Board SPDIF to I2S Converter Softwear Control LCD | eBay

At this point, it is much more eaiser to build your own dac using one of those receiver + dac combo boards previously mentioned here. Like this one:

AK4495SEQ+WM8805 DAC Optical Fiber Coaxis USB Decode Board Frss Shipping-in Amplifier from Consumer Electronics on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

And this one using AK4490 with display and cheaper too:

You can collect your all boards in one chasis if you wish. Plastic chassis would make your drilling work much easier and clean.

This is the transformer required for the boards (one for each):
30W 0V 115V 230V Audio R Core Transformer 15V 15V 9V 9V for Preamp 80×74×40MM | eBay

Thanks for that. It looks like a good option.

I just read a thread elsewhere where the poster warns of issues using multiple dacs even of the same type.

Is different latency possible between the same dac? And that they may start playing at different moments in time and "drift" out of alignment?

Hi Ozcal,

can you elaborate on its "good" design features?

Product description more detailed than many. I can see a number of SMD components (shorter traces/ better tolerances). Grounding, types of regulators, clock model?

What USB daughter card or separate I2S converter do you use? Have you sourced the 15 and 9 V transformers and case in Australia?

Hi Focal , I am not an engineer so I tend to rely on the opinions of those I trust. Kukynas started a thread here : http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digi...ono-ak4495s-ak4137-mcu-lcd-dac-kit-160-a.html which has a lot of info on the boards.
I am using the Amanero usb board with power supplies and transformer from Audio-GD.
I used Amtrans film and foil caps in the filter section ,Elna Slimic 2 for the opamp psu and Nichicon FG and Sanyo oscon SEPC in the digital section.
I used OPA134 opamps(ok but a bit bland sounding) for testing which today have been replaced with Burson V5 singles.
I have a Bellson super reg still to fit to the input board and will replace the 'line fit' smd clocks with Crystek etc once I do a bit more research.
Hope that helps.
PS : Case was bought a few years back but has been repurposed for the new dac.

If you are worried about that I would use WASAPI in push mode, not event mode. Honestly don't know if they will be perfectly in sync.

It would just make sure that there are no differences in lag due to the receiver. You would split 3 ways to the DAC boards. But I am not sure if your setup needs three different SPDIF signals out, in which case you would need 3 receivers, or just one SPDIF split to three DACS, where you could get by using one receiver.
