It's alive. Any opinions about how much time it takes to run in?
Haven't got this DAC. But my AK-4399 (weilliang DAC9) was improving a lot over the first 100-150 Hours.
Do you have bought it with (discrete SE Shield or OpAmp Shield) ??
Then you have to get by my House some Day to listen.

Hi Sonny.
I'm living only 50 Km from your House it your are from Odense. I have a
good friend too who is very interested.
We are both Tubes freaks (4P1L and 2a3). So your offer seems to be a must do thing in Januar.
Other Danes beside the guy from (Bornholm) who has bought your DAC ??

Michael Godskesen has one of them standing also Rene from Vassago hifi.
But the discrete outputstage is an huge improvement over chip based op-amp output stage.
And the ones Michael and Rene has standing is chip based op-amp.
Brian from Kado Sound has compared it to an Audio Aero Prestige Signature and the DAC is an improvement over the Audio Aero.
If you look at the output stage of the Audio Aero it is silly how much you pay for this player and what you get!
Sonny,
What features will the display add to the function of the existing dac modules? Will it mostly perform the task of providing operational information or will it create an interface/control point? Cant wait. It will have to show its pedigree against some nice vinyl rigs🙂

It will provide information on mode and filter. But for the filter to be changed you have to change source type at the moment .. in other words... change source from 44.1KHz to for example 88.2/96KHz. If you dont change source type the XMOS firmware does not reprogram the DAC at the moment unless samplerate is changed.

Yes that is right. The firmware on the frontpanel is basicly the same.

On my Auralic Aries i cannot change the sample rate so it is impossible to upsample a 44.1 flac to, for instance, 192kHz. So if i want to change filter I would have to play a flac with a higher sample rate to change the filter...
It's not possible to stop playing, so no signal to dac, then change filter and press play again?

Just a short Update . Status is added to the frontpanel.
I am also Working on the filter and balance

This is great news Sonny!! You're like a busy bee, you never stop!! Hehe
Could you also display the bit depth? Some recordings could be for example 16/44.1 and 24/44.1, I have some of those.
Ciao!
Do

We're both working hard: I've got 75 hours playing time on my dac right now. As far as my brain is not fooling me the sound is still changing for the good.
My other dac is a TPA BIIISE and as far as I can tell the AK4490 at least equals the BIIISE which is a compliment! At this moment I'm using the PSU from the BIIISE for the 4490 so I can't compare the two in the same listening session, PSU for the 4490 is on the way.

Hi ijscobar.
Is the PSU from your TPA BIIISE a very highend "expensive setup" ??
Do you have some pictures to Share ??
Will properly have to go to Odense very very soon. 🙂🙂
/Michael.
It's a Placid HD shunt powersupply. You can find it at their website. It's a good psu. For the 4490 I bought TPS7A4700 pcb's here on DIYA.
