The chassis is fully pre- drilled.
Actually there is more holes than material.... 😀
I am waiting on quotes for the chassis. Before i have this quote i cannot say anything about the price.

Thanks Sonny,
That looks fancy indeed. I really like well designed and perfectly executed stuff like yours, you have made quite a stir with the quality of your work.
Sonny, is there somekind of manual how the frontpanel works? What functions does it have?
I'm in the market for a new dac but not really a new pre amp. I am using a Relaixed pre amp (attenuator with relays and mini self resistors) which I really like but a dac and pre amp together has its advantages. So I would like to know what can be done with the front panel. Can I use another remote controle than the Apple RC? Can I adjust balance? Etc....
Hello ijscobar.
I will Update the documents This week.
It Can be used with other attenuators, i just need to know how it is controlled.
Regarding remote i have only implemented NEC codes which apple uses In there remote.
Adjusting balance well be a Nice feature.
Chassis :
I will get prices This week, but there will not be produced anything on This site of new years eve. I am sorry..

Looking forward for the updated documents!
I have a room full of Apple stuff recently my MacMini started playing music when I used the remote for my AppleTV. I had to think twice before I realized the Mac Mini did something I did not want it to do 😀
By the way, the Mac Mini is for sale 🙂

Yes this is a common issue of all macs. I did not check yet, but I think the easiest way is to turn off apple remote in the Mac itself))

The Frontpanel and the mac/apple tv can learn the signature of the remote.
So you can have in theory up to 255 remotes in the same room.

That should solve the "problem". Sonny, is it difficult to implement "balance" in the pre amp?
Other question: If not buying the pre amp, can the frontpanel be used with the 4490 dac? (what would it cost?) (I'm interested in the balanced version) Reason I'm asking some questions is that I have to order all at one time. If ordering separate (which would be my first choice) I would be paying 2x € 35,- for shipping. Thats an awful lot of Pølser 😉

Personally I'm a big fan of the Molex Microfit Hypex uses with gold plated Phosphor bronze contacts.
43025-0400 Molex | Mouser
43030-0008 Molex | Mouser
To follow up with this, I noticed the connector you use for the Diff out is the tin plated version of this:
22-23-2031 Molex | Mouser
The gold plated version of the same connector can be found here:
22-11-2032 Molex | Mouser
In quantities of 100 units, the difference in price between the gold plated and tin plated versions is only 20 cents each. With only 2 diff output connectors on each board, is there anyone here that would pay the extra 40 cents per DAC for the gold plated connectors?
Personally my choice would be the Molex microfit 3.0 which are even nicer. But that would add about $2 to the BOM. Even better would be 100% gold plated for everything. But that would probably increase the BOM by an additional $2 per DAC.

Please note these are Mousers prices. Cheaper prices can probably be found elsewhere.
Maybe this could be an option?

What are the power requirements for the dac with balanced discrete shield and the requirements for the pre amp with frontpanel?
Ah, found it 🙂
The same as for the DAC.
It will need +5 - +5.5V<200mA, +15VDC, 300mA and -15VDC, 300mA.
The DAC uses +5 - +5.5V<100mA, +15VDC, 200mA and -15VDC, 200mA.
So they can both be powered by the SMPS ECL30UT03 without any problems.

But of course! Setup in SE for now but later on this week in Balanced. Working on the chassis as well.

Hi pinnocchio.
Which toroidal transformers are you using..
Is it a 2*15 + 1*6 volt ??
Where did you get your PCB for rectify to DC ??
/Thanks Michael.
He is using these power supplies:
The σ11 regulated power supply
The σ22 regulated power supply
They are very good. Use a Sigma 11 myself.

Hi Michael,
ijscobar is correct with the PSUs. The transformers are Triad Magnetics bought at Digikey, except the R-Core was from fleaBay, but this one if for the headphone amp anyways.
Sonny, that is an amazing price for the chassis!!!
Thanks
