AK4490 USB Dac with dsd support.

Hi Sonny,

I would be interested in one chassis.
Elox black front. A bit tight up with other projects right now, but if I could pay for it in mid Jan, I would go for it. Let me know whether it works for you. I hope we would be able to arrange shipping for both chassis and new dac once it is available)

Hi Sonny,

I'm interested in the entire kit depending on total cost. I would probably go for the linear PSU, black Elox case, and the DAC with SPDIF, Toslink and I2S.

If you could give me an idea of the total cost at some point I would really appreciate it. 🙂

Thanks

The DAC uses +5 - +5.5V<100mA, +15VDC, 200mA and -15VDC, 200mA.

Hi Sonny,

Is this the last word on PS needs for the DAC plus discrete shield? With the SMPS being ~80% efficient, I figure ~8.2W. Is that right? I have some fuses on hand that are marginal-ish in current rating (100mA slo-blow), and am trying to decide whether to just plug them in or pick up some with a higher amperage rating.

Last thing I have to do before turning it on...

Thanks,
John

Thanks Sonny. Clearly I need to do some more reading on how SMPS work.

Regards,

John

Dear Sonny,

A few questions. Will the case have predrilled holes for the boards? Especially for the display? If you can do that it will be a real Christmas gift, as we have discussed having the option to get a beautiful case will make the already great deal something special 🙂 Judging by the attention to detail that you show I cannot wait to see it... And that is one of the few very enjoyable DACs I have heard in a long time.

And how is that display firmware coming along? Dying to try the AKM filters...

The chassis is fully pre- drilled.

Actually there is more holes than material.... 😀

I am waiting on quotes for the chassis. Before i have this quote i cannot say anything about the price.

Do you think there's any sound degradation using double fuses? Some audiophiles swear by Audiophile silver fuses, fancy power cables etc. When an SMPS is used, does that eliminate the advantage of these fuses and cables?

The same audiophiles wants to get rid of the molex connectors I and Hypex is using...

We can get top of the line connectors from ERNI but they are very expensive. They are better. Goldplated, high current carrying, highspeed interconnect.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Molex Microfit Hypex uses with gold plated Phosphor bronze contacts.
