Yea, parts can be tough sometimes. Ordered some Cree diodes, caps yesterday that I need for weekend work. Shipping was 3x the parts to get it quickly. Ouch. In the end, free time to work on a project is more valuable though - so I'll spend what I need to.

That's DIY for ya. I ordered this supply to compare with my low noise linear supplies and they hammered me with $25 shipping! Then I find out they sent it by UPS standard and will take a week! Digikey charges $8 shipping and you have it the next day via FedEx.

So does anyone else have their discrete IV working? I'd love to hear more impressions.
I've had the dac and preamp up now since weds..
I'll post some impressions soon!

What are you running for power supplies?
Edit: never mind. I seen your ordered the SMPS from Sonny.

I have the SMPS plugged in now so I could rig it up in 10 mins.
But I plan on experimenting with a few LPS the weekend after next.
Taking it to a Dac meeting in a few weekends, so I'll take the best ps setup.

Right on, I'll share my results as well. I bought the same supply only in an enclosure with screw terminals. More money but I thought it would be nice to have around for test purposes. I can also easily wrap it with copper foil to shield it.

Preamp boards In completion.
I would like to now if anyone has wishes about total gain.
We Can deliver 0dB, +6dB and +12dB gain.
Just write an list and we will set them according to that.

Hi Sonny,
Is it hard to change manually afterward? I would go for +6dB but would also like to try 0dB since your DAC discrete output has voltage output high enough to drive any of my amps.
Thanks

I'm not one to do subjective reviews. I've had many Dacs and preamps pass through; I'd have to say that this is one of the best I've ever heard using the SMPS.
Clean and transparent sound, which appears to revel in layering any complex music I throw at it, outstanding bass and a very realistic tone. USB implementation is solid and remote is responsive. The chord Hugo which was around last week was left in the dust.
I had some issues with the pre-amp and Sonny has been pro-active in resolving it.
Good work Sonny and I'd suggest people to buy it before he goes 100% retail only.
