I believe Nelson is credited with writing that the air that transmits the sound we hear is fundamentally a Class A medium (maybe somebody can dig up the quote or reference).
I reckon it's actually Class D.
When you think about sound, it's actually air pressure.
Air pressure is produced by the force of many small molecules, each one transmitting a discrete amount of momentum.
At a surface for example, each molecule of air (actually a mixture of different molecules but you know what I mean) hits and recoils from the surface. Many many small discrete 'bumps' into the surface average over time to produce the equivalent of a steady force, or pressure.
Just like Class D, where many small switching actions are averaged by the output filter to produce the equivalent of a steady signal.
So air is fundamentally Class D. And so we are all hearing "Class D" whether we like it or not. And at the 'quantum level' inside our amplifiers, it is discrete packets of charge doing the work - it's all Class D man.

yes let us think about air pressure
air pressure being approximately 14.7 psi ( sea level, temperature...) and sound is actually the increase and decrease of that air pressure I would say it is indeed class A
If you were in space (vacuum) and integrated (air) pulses to get audio information then it would be class D.
