Audio Innovations 500 with a Vintage Audio Lab 23 step attenuator

Hello all.

I have an Audio Innovations 500 and the volume pot needs replacing. I want to replace it with a Vintage Audio Lab 23 step attenuator as I have read positive things about them. V.A.L. have a 250k ohm version but not 500k. Will 250k be OK.

Whilst inside the amp I will bypass the balance control.

Will changing the value of the pot require me to alter any of the other components. If so can someone suggest required values.

See the attached schematic for existing arrangement.

Thanks Ian

Thanks Lars,

I have already removed the input caps . Please can you tell me why you suggest 100k as the best value. Might as well learn something whilst I'm here🙂 I do a lot of low level listening. Will 100k give me less control at lower volume levels than 250k or is this one of those strange counter-intuative situations?

Ian.
