Well seeing all of the interesting information posted by everyone I thought I would ask another question- I'm thinking of buying one of those more expensive cables than comes with the Marantz receiver I bought a couple of years back has anyone tried this and how did it go -also has anyone had success with a DIY project of this sort?
All my PCs are solid core Neotech OCC terminated mostly with a Furutech of some guise. Definitely not conforming to any code. Not sure how stranded OCC compares; stranded OFC, even when expensive does not compare well. All imho of course.

its a 3 pin AU 240v also the other end is like the one that is plugged into a computer power supply
I've lived in the same house for 28 years. When I repaint a room I always remove all switches and AC power plugs and tighten the screws. They are almost always a bit loose. The kitchen ones, the wires coming in have been burnt. Before wasting your money on a power cord, check all the plugs and wiring on the circuit that your hi-fi uses. In North America There are many connections between the breaker panel and the final outlet. If you have loose or poor connections by all means replace the wall socket and power cord.
Ok, the experiment is to try a white insulated version of the standard (black) IEC/Kettle/PC cable that you already have.
IME this can make an agreeable difference to system sound with what is an otherwise essentially the same power cord.

I use the thickest AC cables from amounst the 100s i have. I havenot done AC cable comparisons, but have seen an article (by a 3rd party) that show that some give better measured performance.

Wouldn't a mains filter be better?......and cheaper. What has "crap" filtering got to do with thickness
+1 ..and more tangible. Not that parasitics can't be used if they are expected and suitable.
The general rule with mains cables for audio equipment is that the thicker they are and the more expensive they are the better the sound appears to be to the purchaser and his friends. The fact that there will be no measurable change is merely a sign that measurements don't tell us anything useful. 😎
