Affordable shunt caps?

I've heard it claimed that shunt caps introduce less distortion than series caps. I don't know how true this is. But in my notch filter, I used a largish bipolar electrolytic from Parts Express and all other caps are poly. I don't know if a poly would improve the performance or not but it sure sounds better with the notch filter than without and that's an understatement.

It's already been established that bipolar electrolytic caps distort much less than polarized caps.

Do you think it is film foil layout but made radial output?
It's a mostly standard metalized cap. (..film & foil would make this cap MONSTEROUS in size, probably 8x as large.)

The real difference is that the foil/substrate for the metalized layer is even thinner than normal and its windings are sectioned so that to get the full 260uf you need to solder together the pole terminals correctly. (..un-widing it might make a good electrostat tweeter film.)

I've got one as a protection cap for testing (tweeters). It's a chunky light-blue hand-grip-sized cap. 😊

As for sound-quality, I really haven't tried to compare it to others - I mostly purchased it for a bit of low-freq. loss and of course DC-block when testing that should last forever.

Note: Poly or Electrolytic, you can always try "charged coupling" (Jeff/forum member Badman):

Thanks for all the suggestions! I have looked at the differerent possibilities judging by what is available based on your inputs.
Any comments on which of these options would be best suited?

Currently leaning towards one of these, since they seem to be easiest to source..:

I did some more research and im leaning more and more towards mundorf ecaps.

A bonus question: mundorf ecaps in the br100 100v version seems to be 100 uf max whereas the br63 63v is available at higher values.

What would be better - 1x mundorf ecap 200uF 63v version or 2x mundorf ecap 100uF 100v version in parallel?

Thanks 🙂
