Advise for two way with dynamics and wide directivity

Hello,

After having built two pairs of full)-rangers (Jordan VTL and MLTL), I'd like to give a try to two-ways.

This is following a recent blootooth speaker build were I used a 8" woofer cross at 180Hz and enjoyed the punch. My full-rangers are seconded by a 12" sub which works great, but closing at 80Hz the punch in the 80-200Hz range isn't comparable.

Constraints:
  • Wall mounted, max 15x35x120 (6"x 13.5" x 47")
  • Due to low thickness no toe-in possible (unlike my folded VTLs which are also wall-mounted)
  • High dynamics and punch
  • Go looooow (there won't be any sub added unlike my other speakers)
  • Best possible off-axis response (due to wall placement w/o toe-in)

I had a look at Fountek NEO CD 3.5H and was wondering with which woofer to pair them, with a reasonable budget (not more than the fountek price)... 8 et 12" can fit and the total volume is more or less 33l.

Not decided on closed or BR, maybe more closed for more punch/less volume as it will be fed by bi-amping and DSP.

Fountek idea comes from the directivity of this speaker, but maybe there are other choices.

Thx!

F.

Parts-express says foundtek new 3.5 is unavailable, but ebay has some for $164 each. Might be counterfeit, who knows? diyaudiocart.com says they are 95.5 db 1w1m pmax 12 w impedance 7 ohms response 1100-30000 hz but minimum crossover 2500 hz 12 db/octave. 4600 IRE whatever that is. India rupee?
Your box size is kind of limiting bass reponse. A 10" kappapro-10A can fit in a 10 L box sealed or 28 L vented but gets peaky from 1000 to 2000 hz and drops like a rock above 2000. See https://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Kappa_Pro_10A for their recommended 11.1 liter box which allows the full 500 w rating 110 hz above. You can go lower with a bigger box but you have to derate the power to not blow Xmax. Kappa-pro10a is $149 + freight + tax today in the USA.
That leaves a hole from 2000 to 2500 hz. See this thread for a 73 hz to 2500 woofer in a 43 L box. Kappa12a is $120 +freight+tax in USA . https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/enclosure-for-eminence-kappa-12a.383202/ 12" diameter exceeds your box width.
You want measured wide directivity look at pispeakers.com 4pi. Uses a CD on a horn. Or in a big box with higher power, Peavey SP2-XT. I had some SP2-XT, had measured response -3db over 22.5 deg from centerline (45 deg dispersion) from 500 hz to 14 khz.

Further investigation of other 10" woofers came up with a candidate. Two B&C 10" models drop 10 db from 200 hz to 80 hz, and the third model drops 15 db. However the Eminence beta-10A only drops 5 db from 200 hz to 80 hz. Furthermore its response rises from 1 khz to 3 khz thereby covering the bandgap where the foundtek neo cd 3.5 must be protected below 2500 hz. https://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Beta_10A
it is only a 250 W driver, but that should not be a problem matching a 7 watt tweeter. Fs 53 hz qt 0.49 vas 60.1 L so it will go either sealed or vented. Recommended sealed volume is 8.5-14 L which fits your criteria. $79 in US. Eminence recommended cabinet design is 61.1 L vented f3 59 hz vent 3" diameter 2.7" long, but that limits response to 50 watts. You could go higher in watts in a smaller sealed cabinet for f3 80 hz.

It's worth noting that the frequency response charts are likely taken in an infinite baffle. Going ported etc would likely yield better results.

For a 2-way with decent LF output, I'd avoid a ribbon tweeter. Too fragile, too limited in extension. A really good 1" dome, or the SB65 2.5" full-ranger crossed to a reasonably meaty woofer would be where I'd start.
