Advice seeked for improving a Monitor audio bronze BX-1 set

hallo everybody,


I have some specific questions concerning improvements of the Bronze MA set I own.


In terms of sound dampening:


I would combine thick felt plus some sound deadening sheets (or thick car type paint I already own), trying to keep the same volume requirement of the original speaker (padded with some cheap thick foam as you can see in the YT video linked below)


My first question is: can I cover the crossover board with a layer of felt so as to insulate caps from vibrations? I would paint the felt with some car type sound-deadening paint on the side not touching the electronics.


My second question concerns the caps and resistors: shall I go for a recapping or for a cheaper bypassing? On this forum the general advice is not to spend too much on low level items, so I would need some advice about the type of caps and resistor to employ for recapping or bypassing this set in a suitable manner.


This is a YT video that shows the internal components of the bronze. Monitor audio claims to have employed quality caps. The main problem I experience is strong vibrations in the side panels at full volume, esp with piano and orchestras.

Bracing panels will reduce the vibrations of the side panel. No stick on product or felt is going to reduce that. Unfortunately that results in lost volume inside the enclosure, so it is a non-starter.



Capacitors exposed to vibration is generally a non-problem. If the capacitors are old and of an electrolytic type, chances are they may need to be replaced. Resistors do not wear out or degrade unless overpowered enough to open the circuit.
 
Honestly I don't see much room for improvement there, well yes but not much point in cap replacement as those are reasonable. Add a subwoofer to take out some of the bass and the cabinets probably won't vibrate as much
A 25mm dowel from side to side perhaps, won't take up too much room but the panels are small
 
Thank you for your answers. As for bracing materials, could I use iron? I have smithing capabilities and I could realize dowels or braces out of heavily hammered iron. This material is dense since grain is refined by being hot compressed under a trip hammer. That's just an idea. I have access to brass rods of many measures too. I can shape such materials easily if necessary.
