I've just completed a (successful and pleasing) full range build using Mark Audio drivers, and have enough already cut 18mm Russian birch ply to make-up another pair of 11 litre cabinets measuring H336mm by D244mm by W226mm. Can anyone please advise a good 2-way (ported or otherwise) design that would suit such a cabinet size? Budget for drivers, cross-overs, etc, set at £500. Many thanks.
The SB17"xyz"-35 series of drivers do well in 10 - 13 liter sealed boxes. The "xyz" describes the diaphragm cone material, for example NRX2 is a natural paper fiber cone, NBAC is an aluminum cone. They all share a common frame and motor. This motor is a very good one, with low distortion.
I have used the ceramic-coated aluminum driver SB17CAC35-4 in an active 3 way speaker and I am very impressed. I have also used the poly cone SB17MFC35-8 in a conventional bookshelf monitor speaker with a passive crossover. Again, I am very happy.
The poly cones are the cheapest at ~ $USD 60, and the carbon epoxy versions are the priciest at ~ $USD 94, with the paper, aluminum, and ceramic cones falling between those price points.
I would look for designs or kits that use one of these drivers.
Here is one SB Acoustics Bromo 2-Way Speaker Kit - Pair
I have no experience with this kit, but it was developed by SB acoustics and they usually do a good job.

SB13PFC works well in that volume, for a budget system pair it with Vifa TG9 widerangers and a simple 1st order xover at the baffle step freq
