I am trying to decide what to build to replace my Fisher 400 cx-2 preamp. I do like the tube sound. I have been using that preamplifier with a 50 watt amplifier. My speakers are Bagby Continuum monitors which I think are around 86/87 db. I usually listen to 320k files through my phone via a dac.
I have been reading about the Pass F5 turbo amp and the modified tpa3116 amp as well as the Pass B1 line stage.
Any thoughts on how these might mix with my speakers and listening setup?

F5 , no turbo , last iteration with P3 across JFet source resistors
B1 , if your source is on par with 2Vrms standard

I have the F5 boards from the diyaudio store. I just got them about two months ago. Would those be the correct boards?
I go for the ba3 front end as a preamp/f5 with those speakers....especially if you listen loud or have a big room. B1/f5 didnt work in my large room with 90db efficient speakers. Ba3/f5 did.

My findings were identical. Didnt care for B-1 so much with F-5. Love the BA-3 pre with it, YMMV.

Would this work as a power supply for the f5? Abletec Switch Mode Power Supply +53V at 1.4A, -53V at 1.4A, +7.5V at 1.6A, +5.6V 1A

+/-53V is way too much
read the homework
go to FIRST WATT , read ......
be back here in month ..... or two ........ or 6

The F5T is a great amplifier, you'll love it!
From a computer source the B1 will not give enough gain for full output, consider something else as preamp. ZenMod's "Pumpkin" would be great. As would BA-3 as preamp.

Can I use the super regulator board that is in stock for both the BA-3 and the F5? I am trying to order the parts for both.
The BA-3 as preamp would use the super reg, it would work great!
You can find the new version of the board I used in the BA-3 Pre guide here - GlassWare PS-19 Bipolar Power Supply Kit
The F5 does not use a regulated supply. You need this PSU - Universal PSU V3 - Circuit Boards

Thanks. I have built a number of pairs of speakers but this is my first component build. It is a big learning curve. I have been reading non stop for the last couple of weeks.
Will one of the transformers on the glassware site work for the BA-3?

Build a BA-3 amp and put a selector switch and pot in front of it and make an integrated...
EDIT: Ah, nevermind, you already have the F5 PCB. 🙂
The Power amp needs 300-400VA 18+18V or 20+20V transformer. http://www.antekinc.com/as-4220-400va-20v-transformer/
The Preamp 25-50VA 22+22V http://www.antekinc.com/an-0222-25va-22v-transformer/

The BA-3 will actually drive a speaker?

Not just the BA-3 front end (the "preamp" portion), but including the
follower.
