I just picked up a pair of NHT Model 1.8s as a project to fool around with. The surrounds on the 6.5" mids are shot.
I understand that it's difficult to substitute different drivers without changes to the crossover, but I've put in some Vifa poly cone woofers and am generally pleased with the results.
Anyway, my actual question is about the tweeters. I've attached an image of one of them. What are they? NHT identified them as "maybe Fosters" and I've seen other listed as Seas. I think they're mylar cones but honestly I'm not sure. NHT doesn't have any info on the specs for the crossover or the driver.
I don't much like the way they sound and would like to replace them. Is it possible to make any recommendation on what to use instead? I've generally been a fan of fabric dome tweeters, but lately I've been interested in planars and ribbons. I'd like to try the Fountek NeoCd1.0 1.5" ribbon but it's a very different driver. IIRC ribbons go lower than other tweeters, yes? I wouldn't be averse to modding the crossover if that's what it takes.
Can anyone fill me in, positive or negative?
