So I'm looking to build an FPGA based DSP, and the FPGA bit seems easy (for now) as I have maths/computing background.
What I'm unsure about is how to build AD and DA's, I know I need them either side in the signal chain and that there are chips that are AD's and DA's, but how can I build the bits to make it work?
I need to get from balanced analogue to I2S data streem and then from I2S data streem to balanced audio once again. Are there any cheepish boards that can do this for me already? (looking for 24bit 48K)

How is your computer programming skill set? Will you use a pre codded tool set and then write the main code calling functions from the tools you purchased or are you going to write the I/O handlers your self?
Here is a link to Mouser to get the ball rolling. If you want to build the boards yourself search chipsets.
