I`m not gonna comment on the sub, I`m not qualified. 🙂
But on the car/handling side I could make a comment. Not only any weight increase will affect your handling, but also where you place it. Put the sub closer to the center of gravity will cause less problems, further away the more it will. Adding even 50 lbs will make it noticeable to a sensitive driver. Do you race or is it just something you noticed while driving on the street? If you already know this, feel free to ignore. 😀

It is my daily driver that I do race (drag racing). The weight at the rear wont be as bad in this setup as it is a RWD car. The only thing is its already a 50/50 (or was it 49/51) balanced car with the transmission in the rear. however the car is a manual.
The 85 lb sub box definately made a noticeable difference in the ride/handling.
I plan to drive around with no weight in the back for a couple of days to get a "feel" for it. Then, I will take a 50 lb sand bag and put it in the rear approx where the sub will be and take a note on how it handles/feels.
I may put higher rate springs and shocks anyway since my car was the base model and did not have the upgraded suspension.
I did have another thought. Its a coupe 2 seater and I'm thinking of perhaps making a partition out of thick plexiglass so I can still see out the rear window and using the entire rear as the enclosure. Hmmm. Then the woofer weight will be just the woofers + the board and amps and it will be right in the middle of the vehicle.
