I am using Adobe Photoshop CC (2015.5.0).
Everything was running fine until it recently stopped running for no real apparent reason. The error message occurs: An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit.
Is there something I can do myself to fix Photoshop?

I think there are probably better forums than this for PC/software issues, however I would suggest you look and see if the problem has coincided with any recent Windows update. If it is a recent issue then you could try a system restore.

Also you could try running an older program in compatibility mode:
