In the end, I discovered that the Audio Research 300.2 Class-T amp i was using had so MUCH RF leakage that is was causing problems in the CD player. when I switched the amp off, all the problems went away!

BTW, the YEDS-18 disc mentioned earlier is just manufactured as close to the CD-standard as possible to give a clear exepattern. All test signals are meant to evaluate D/A Conversion.
