Addressing John Curl's concerns on low noise designs

I see the problem: The 2 designs, FET and TUBE were DIFFERENT units, not the same unit. The FET unit was set by me at 200V. The TUBE unit had even higher voltages, but I don't remember what they are. I could probably find out, if this is important.
The way I described the tests was ambiguous, and I will try to be more careful, especially for people from other countries.
Actually, Wavebourn, I have no idea what you were trying to say at this point, but I did just what I was criticizing others for, jumping to a negative conclusion. Sorry about that. (in this case)😕

My mistake, I was thinking of a complete tube amp driving a load with 10ppm distortion at full output. You offset one side just to force some seconds, pretty good match I'd say. Still my ST had -106dB thirds so I wouldn't trust it as the last word at 10ppm.

People sometimes here seems to forget that this is an international forum and people from various nations-language areas come to discussion. Not all of them are native English speakers and sometimes those people have difficulties-troubles to truly express themselves and present to others their thoughts. I am one of those people and I am very confident that you guys have concluded what I wanted to say...

P.S. I am not an native English speaker, so sorry for any mistakes.... :xeye:

Cheers

"transistors don`t have the properties (capabilities) of tubes."

I don't know why you rant about 'non-native speakers' and 'international community' but this seems a very clear and unmistaken statement. It also factually correct but at the same time devoid of any real content; a real achievement! It indeed is actually abyssmal. So? 😉 Lighten up!

That is where I bought mine a year ago or so. Dalbani is a good company and I have not had any fakes from them. Not the cheapest around nor do they stock much, so I had to wait a few weeks until they shipped the ones I ordered.

www.dalbani.co.uk still has 2SC2547E and 2SA1085E (the highest beta grade) for reasonable prices.

A mercyful european soul can get some and send them to me in private, otherwise banks, Canadian customs and taxes will double the price. Hope they are genuine...

I must disagree with you, Scott. I disagree due to the fact that I have done blind and none blind tests for ages: differences are there. Even for resistors.

No offence taken.

Differences by listening alone do not exist. Sorry if that offends anyone and you can just ignore it, but I will stand by that claim that a precision resistor can not have an audible artifact in its transfer function. Held under strict scrutiny all results to the contrary will not hold up.
