Adding weight to control knobs for better feel

I've noticed on several amps and tuners etc that there's a weight inside the case, mounted to the shaft. It seems to give a really nice heft to the control

Has anyone used this idea or had any experience?

Ive found loads on the tuning section of old radios and tuners. They were linked on the string that moved the needle.

But I've had two, that I can remember, on amps I've tinkered with. Directly connected to the shaft. I think they were in large radiogram cabinets

Should make the pot feel nice and 'weighty' I guess?

Good tuning controls are MULTI-turn. If you want to spin to the far end of the dial, some flywheel effect is nice.

Volume (tone, input) knobs are not multi-turn, and generally you don't want to spin to the other end all that fast.

Folks:

I purchased a 54mm diameter stainless steel knob from Viljo Marrandi (Viljo Marrandi art and engraving – Handmade art) for a preamp project that has unfortunately stalled. The price, including shipping from the EU to the US, was well under $50. His knob is beautiful (please don't misinterpret me), weighs about a pound and I look forward to using it in a preamp soon.

A custom-made knob could be an excellent alternative, no?

Regards,
Scott
