Adding S/PDIF to Computer

I have an Acer Revo R3600 which I use as a Squeezebox Music server with WinXP. I found this page dealing with exploiting the S/PDIF output on the Realtek audio chip and have made the necessary connections but I cannot figure out how to turn on the S/PDIF feature on the Realtek driver.

If anyone has an ideas I'd be most grateful.

Right-click on your little icon for your volume control, the one down by your clock.
Select "Playback devices", this page should show you the audio devices and whats turned on.
The activated ones will have a faded level meter beside them, and usually say "ready".
(I say faded level meter, the blocks light up green when a signal is passing through that device)

If you don't see "Realtek Digital Output" on there, or if it is not active, then you need go from there.

The S/PDIF connection doesn't show up at all on the Realtek software. I think you are wrong about the 75ohm termination. I have another PC with Realtek audio and the S/PDIF shows even when nothing is connected.

The Specific chip is the ALC662. The datasheet is actually many sheets and not easy to read. But I think what is going on is that a configuration string is sent to the chip at some stage. What I need to figure out is where the configuration string is coming from and how to change it. The original article I looked at had it working in Linux, but I need to figure it out for XP.
