Adding Muses volume to SSE

I'm planning on adding a Muses remote control volume module to my SSE and I was told I need to implement a muting relay. As a beginner I'm looking for some advice on the best way to do this.

This is the module:
VCU | academyaudio

And this is the power supply I got for it, which I plan to install in parallel with the main power transformer:

Are there ready-made muting relays I can buy and if so where do they do in the signal path? Or are they easy to DIY?

I believe the product that you are considering has provisions to add a muting relay, looks like it's not hard to diy and works with their remote. Look at the 2 downloads.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting it but I think the mute function on the remote is separate from the on/off relay. There are provisions to output control to a relay but I don’t see a mention of what to use for the actual relay.

According to the MUSES®72320 volume control chip datasheet, the chip is sensitive to the audio signal applied to the inputs before the power is supplied. In this case a distorted audio may be fed through the chip to the outputs. Some power-up pops and clicks are also possible. Therefore, using a muting relay is highly recommended. Note, that the relay should be activated after about 1 sec of delay upon power- up, and released immediately at power down. The VCU board provides the required muting relay control signal. Due to a very low noise of the VCU the muting relay does not change its status while the MUTE mode is activated.

The Pete Millet circuit that you linked to would be better as it mutes the output until the tubes warm up. After you put in Pete's delay, you could always add the Academy Audio mute to the volume control in case you have to mute the volume while playing music.

Yes I think that’s the solution I’m looking for, preventing a thump/click on startup and shut down. A mute from the remote function would also be good.
