is there a way to add balanced outputs to an existing cd player? its an NAD 502 and just has rca analog outs. any way to easily add balanced connections?

I dont know if youll be able to put them in cdplayer..
With that you add another stage, which will additionally degrade sound, I dont recommend you to do this unless you are using very long wires to your preamp/amp.

Another one: Get a decent output transformer (e.g. Sowter 8347 DAC Interface Transformer) and connect it directly to the DAC. I/V conversion is done by a simple resistor if necessary. No additional circuitry, no power supply and de-coupling as a plus...🙂
For a relatively compact solution Analog Devices offer the SSM2142 and Texas Instruments the DRV134/135 balanced line drivers. The SSM2142 and the DRV134 are available in 8-pin DIP.
