I've got a bad fan in my 5800 and have ordered a new pair from Adcom parts, but they seem to have been delayed. So, need to find a temporary substitute locally. There's no identifying markings on the fans, so I have no idea what the CFM or rotational speed is. I have determined that the good fan will turn on at a voltage of 3.95. Has anyone else had to substitute a fan in this amp and what advice might you have? CompUSA locally has a fan of the right size, that will turn on at 4.6 VDC, so maybe that will suffice.
Guess I'll post my own answer here in the event that another 5800 owner might have the same question some day. Both Amazon and CompUSA carry a fan that fills the bill quite well - it's a SilenX EFX-12-12 Effizio Silent Case Fan. It runs quieter than the stock fans and has a fuller air stream since the hub is considerably smaller than the original fan. The turn-on voltage is around 5.5 VDC, a bit higher than the original fans, but since the idling voltage to the fans is higher than that, all is well.
The two replacement fans finally arrived from Adcom parts and were installed. From the labels on the fans, I was able to determine the CFM rating and see that it's higher than that of the Silenx fan I mentioned. There is a Silenx fan with a similar rating and it's the EFX-12-15. The new Adcom supplied fans are just a bit noisier than the Silenx fan and it appears to be due to the different bearing design rather than blade/air noise. Even so, the fans are very quiet and are not audible at my listening position. But, knowing what I do now, I'd opt for a pair of the Silenx fans based on price and noise level. I ran the unit on the bench for a while with one Silenx fan and one of the original Adcom fans to compare noise levels.
In any case, I found that both fans run at a low level after the amplifier is warmed up, but with no signal input. With the new fans installed, the airflow appears to be nearly the same from the two output grills.

i wonder how much for the vents
remember that the optional vent kit cost a small fortune at the time
Kind regards

Not sure what you mean. There was nothing optional about the fans on the 5800 - they were stock items. Today, a new set of two fans is around $75, but the quieter ones I mentioned can be had here for $25.
