AD1954 (SigmaDSP)

I congratulate both of you on these fine looking products. It's not something I'd like to build (because of the analog i/o) but the execution is absolutely first rate. Do either of you have interest in a digital-in/digital-out crossover? SHARC is out of the question because ADI won't release the dev tools, but Motorola and TI both make suitable DSPs.

Roadkill: From what I read in The Economist, Bangalore will shortly be awash in all manner of electronic components. Have patience, I guess.

To do digital out you can try the AD1953, which is the same as the 1954, but can multiplex up to 6 channels on a digital output. This can be connected to several multi-channel DACs.

SHARC development tools are available in 2 forms:
1) Visual DSP evaluation version (30 day trial)
2) The ADI GNU tools, which I suppose is free (I use them at work, but we got it as a part of a larger toolset).

However, using a SHARC wont be very easy starting from scratch, with the boot EPROM and everyting else to do. If you buy an EB (like EZ-KIT), you get dev tools with it for free. I use multi-processor SHARC boards at work, and we just got some new Hammerhead (21160) and TigerSharc boards... too bad I havent got all this at home.... 🙁

SigmaDSP

I am on my way to make my own board based around AD1954 (SigmaDSP), AD1871 (Stereo ADC), AD1892 (SPDIF Receiver) and either PIC 18F452 or XC9572.

The choice of host controller is not yet final. So you guys can help me out there. I am really good at OrCAD. So expect pro grade PCB's for my work.

I hope that roadkill and achimek will share their work with me.

thanks and regards.

bimbla.

btw: my target is to use SigmaDSP to make a 2.1 Ch Surround Sound Decoder. It will have: Centre, Surround and Sub- woofer channels.

Bimbla,

I'm working on it, although progress is slow. achimek kindly sent me his Eagle design and I have recently got the board done from Olimex. The board looks really nice and as soon as I have all components I will begin soldering it.

I'm planning to use the board as a 3-way digital crossover.

I worked in the ADI SigmaDSP 1954 and 1953 team 2 years ago.

This is an excellent part but its implementation is complex.

The software delivered with the evaluation board requires Labview to work.

The software allows to set the volume on each channel (including subwoofer specific line). You can also apply delays to the LFE.

Equlization can be graphically programmed with various compression levels (including midnight mode).

This part is extremely hard to configure in real-time mode without a PC

Ad1954

Saibot,

Could you please send me the copy of the design achimek sent you? It seems he is off the board currently. I use OrCAD so I will prefer it in OrCAD format if possible. PDF format will also do.

Thanks and regards.

bimbla,

since this is not my design and work I can't send you the Eagle files without achimek's permission. I've just emailed him directly to see what he says. If it's ok by him I can email you the files. However, I cannot convert it to any other format since I don't know how to do this.

Regards,
Tobias

AD1954

I have got my board up and running.
Without the microcontroller part, the project goes limp because the AD1954 does not store any parametres loaded into it through the GUI.
Its boot-up sequence is such that it refreshes its parameter and program memory to defaults. The only way out is to load the parametres and program into it through the GUI. Then copy the whole of it into a microcontroller. Then during next power-up, after the initialisation process, use the previously stored contents from the microcontroller into the AD1954.

Can anyone confirm and approve my line of action?

bimbla.

SigmaSDP EvalKit

I am selling my SigmaDSP (AD1954) kit!

The board is as new, in original packing with the company software CD, in perfect working condition. This is a must explore for Audio engineers.

More details about the same can be found on the company website.

www.analog.com/en/prod/0,2877,765%5F804%5FAD1954,00.html

The listed price is $299. With shipping and taxes, it cones to around $315. That is what I had paid for.

If intrested, kindly email me with your offer.
