I have a question about interfacing the AD1862 with a digital filter. The digital filter sends out BTC MSB-first at 11.2896 MHz, which I understand works fine with this chip. But since the AD-chip converts the last 20 bits after LE goes low, what happens if the dac is fed with a 24-bit signal? Is it mandatory to convert the signal to 20 bits?

The signal is Two's complement, MSB first. The most significant bit is sent first, but these first 4 bits will be ignored by the dac. I guess this would give an error in the conversion, but I don't really understand how the AD1862 works to convert the input signal, so I might be wrong.
