I am looking at building a pair of mono gainclones and installing them inside my speaker cabinets to provide separate power for the woofers in a pair of three ways. Is there any reason not to do this? I am building a pair of 300b monoblocks but feel that they may struggle with driving 3 way speakers. Also where should i go shopping for parts to build these?
Appreciate any help for a first time builder.

Personally, I don't like putting electronic circuits inside speaker cabinets. Much better to have them as close as possible but outside the cabinet to minimise any unwanted vibrations.

what is exactly where pro audio is moving. Not that it is superior or better.
If you're worried about vibration inside the cabinet, consider potting (leave the heatsink free!). I suspect it wouldn't be a real problem, but I'd probably mount mine on the outside, still potted, just to make sure.
Probably not a bad idea. Look at Pass' Rushmore. I personally don't feel that the electronics shoild be in such an environment unless vibrations can be dealt with very well. However, it does eliminate all the BS about speaker cables.

With active speakers you can tailor the amps to those exact speakers and not worry how they'll preform powering different speakers. My current system is an active speaker system and I enjoy it alot.
For active speakers I most often build a compartment on the back that is sealed from the rest of the speakers. So one has to worry much less about vibrations.
The disadvantage is that the gross volume of the speaker will get much larger compared to putting the electronics into the "acoustical environment".

Thanks to all for the replys. I am going to experiment with various drivers to see what can be accomplished. I`ll post my results later.
