Active PA speakers

Hi,
I am playing the idea of building a pair of active PA speakers something similar to this JBL PRX612M 12 1000W 2-Way Self-Powered Monitor (just an idea), i tried searching around the site but can't seem to find what i am looking for. Anyone can help me out to dig some threads about this ? This have to been covered here somewhere. I just can't find it.

Also if this is not the best way to do it i am happy to hear other ideas. Pretty much open. I could also do separate amp and speakers if that makes it cheaper since i do want to make something cost effective.

Let me know what you guys think.

I don't know that there has been much discussion of that exactly, but I do know there were a few discussions about active PA speakers like the Behringer Truth series - you might search for that. Also, this would fit more into the "musical instruments" and "multi-way driver" categories I would think. This section is mostly for discussion of speakers where the bulk of the range is covered by only one driver.

If nothing turns up here, go to PROSOUND web forums. They have quite a few guys who build their own speakers and I'm sure theres more than a few threads on this subject.
I use all passive speakers and amp racks so I'm not much use🙁

I disagree. While guitar players may be satisfied by one speaker, keyboard players and PA users playing CD's or LP's will not be satisfied with that. If you are obsessed with guitars, go to music-electronics-forum.com. They removed my password when they found I was interested in pianos and organs.
I have a pair of PA speakers and a PA amp, and are getting the best sound I ever had out of them for LP's and CD's. Better sounding (alleged) systems are for sale on the coasts, not out here in the middle.
Behringer's no-schematic release policy, and some of their construction practices I have seen, put them on my XXX list.
My church has some Yamaha active PA speakers. they sound wimpy. For piano you are cost cutting if you buy anything with less than a 15" woofer. My SP2's are 90 pounds, which kind of precludes putting an amp in it too. Peavey sells KB100, 200, 300, which are find for starters but probably don't sound as good as SP2 speakers on bass strings of a piano. Some players like Honey don't use the bass keys of the piano much, she seems to use a keyboard PA speaker. JBL may make a fine keyboard speaker, but they don't sell in this area - it is all yamaha, peavey, and bose. I think bose multi-5" speaker bass is silly.
Building the horn + woofer speaker requires a lot of test equipment I don't have, so I buy the speakers. The amp requirement should be based on an LM3886 IC amp for lowest weight, see the chip amp thread for lots of plans for those.

Just my opinion. It is quite easy to make quite good looking speaker box.....but it is hard to make good ,,plate amplifier,, . You can try to buy some such amp but it will be expensive or bad quality.......so my advice is that you make separate speakers and amps. You can also buy some good quality used amps and diy only speakers.....
