Hi,
Does anyone have any views on the potential benefits of modifying the Quad 22L's for active crossover and bi or tri-amping ? And how to go about it ?
Thanks Jack

hi
assuming the 22L's use the same crossover topology as the 11L's, then im not sure there would be much to be gained. I took apart an 11L last week due to the sun melting the insulation on the transformer on a mates valve amp and frying a voice coil. The 11L's use the mechanical rolloff of the midwoofer (ie no passive components) and have a first order filter on the tweeter with just one capacitor.
Assuming quad have picked the midwoofer because it has a nice even rolloff and no real cone breakup, using an active xo to give a higher db/oct crossover may not give any real benefits as it would if there was a large xo network with lots of components.
just my 2 cents 🙂
