Acoustat III can be improved?

Hi
I see the cables issue is now the question!
Well in my opinion,
ESL spk are with a capacitance character.
The panels are of few thousands of pF. That is reflected, buffered toward the amp by an audio transformer with a ratio of 1:70 or 1:100, approximately.
This capacitance is seen by the amp is very small, so is not a major problem.
If the spk cable has an inductance character or capacitance, it will affect the amp more then the spk, that is why I will prefer a robust pwr amp with a good damping factor and high current capability. Please read about Eddy current effects theory.
The effects of the spk cables does exist, so I am using with a great success,
Pure silver cables, made of two separated wires harness as can be seen in the pics.
But really I want to improve the performance of the spk so let concentrate about how can be done.
Best regards and have a nice week end,
Williams

Hi
You're right, sorry, I missed it between the capacitance and impedance.
I thought impedance and wrote capacitance.
I think that's why at high frequency the amplifier should be able to drive a lot of current to load .
What is the capacitance of the 10 feet spk cable compare it to a ESL spk capacitance ?
best regards,
Williams

Really depends on the cable construction technique, but I'd say in general that you want to avoid inductance in the speaker cable with electrostatic speakers. Any speaker cable is going to contribute a very small % of the overall capacitance that the amplifier sees, I would guess a couple of thousand pF of cable capacitance would not create further problems provided the amplifier is capable of driving large capacitive loads to begin with.

Moray I remember you told me you had good success with you panels in corners.
I wonder if the taller panels might be better suited to that setup.
But no matter what, it is key to experiment with placement.
With Maggies some have had good success with what is called the sideways setup.
One never know's until they try.
