Hi,

I have one transformer base that is not operating. I heard a high piched tone for a second, then it went dead with the fuse blown and a strong burnt smell.

Where could I inquirer to have it repaired ?

Thank you for your input.

Which fuse blew? There is the externally mounted audio-input fuse (should be rated 3 to 5 amps slow blow), and two internally mounted bias power supply fuses (should be rated 1/4 amp slow blow if your units are wired for 120 VAC).

If it was the audio fuse that blew, you may also have a problem with the amplifier. This should be checked. However, a burning odor from the speaker is a bad sign under any circumstances, so you almost certainly have a problem there, even if it was caused by a faulty amplifier.

I know of only one place for getting your interfaces (the black box) repaired. Check the Acoustat section of the website www.audiocircuit.com for information on a company called 'Sounds Like New'. Run by an ex-Acoustat employee (Roy Esposito) and located in Florida, he does do quality repairs on all Acoustat products. But understand that he does repairs only on a part-time basis, so be patient in waiting for a response.

You are a God Sent! I cannot thank you enough for the information particularly for the fuses uses. I did not open it up yet, I hope that the panels are not affected. I will check the internal fuses before writting to Mr Esposito.

Thank you again

The chances that something is wrong with the panels is extremely low - they are very reliable and very hard to damage due to over-driving or due to problems with the interface. A repair to the interface will almost certainly solve your problem. I do recommend that you send BOTH interfaces for repair. Even if one of them seems to be working okay, both should be checked for aging components, etc.

Thank you again for your recomforting words.

A quick look inside revels not leakeage or burn spot or smells.

I will have to go at an electrical shop to have the fuse tested since I dont have on hand an ohmmeter.

Yes, that is definitely a good recommandation to send both cases.

Thank you for your time and expertise. You made my day!
