Absolute SPL Basic Test Setup

I have my new UMIK-1, a laptop, and an amp. I can run response curves thru REW just fine. I want to do response curves that show the SPL relative to the 2.83vac at 1 meter standard. I have spent a lifetime trying to find the equipment setup but have had no luck. I have read numerous speaker books and thousands of pages of articles about speaker building but still have not seen the very simple setup example. I'm sure it is basic. I have seen comments that lead me to think the setup is to, for example, use a tone generator set to 1khz as the input to my amp. Attach a precision 8 ohm resistor in place of a speaker to the amp output. Attach an true rms volt meter across the resistor and set the amp to get a reading of 2.838vac. The speaker under test is then placed at 1 meter. I know there are an infinite number of other factors that can be considered but for now I am just trying to get this one step correct. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct setup for absolute spl testing? Also, if I am using a 4 ohm speaker or a 16 ohm speaker does the setup, i.e. resistor value change? Surly not. Thanks for any help.
