MH lamps

MH are much more efficient than Halogen-Tungsten lamps, so they give you more light and less heat for the same number of Watts. They are much more expensive than Halogen and they also require a ballast, starter, and capacitor.

The lamp lumen output requirement is driven by the screen image size: If you want a small image (under 80" diagonal) then a 250 Watt MH is okay. If you want a larger screen image, then get a 400 Watt.

One effect of a small LCD, is that there will be more energy absorbed per square inch on the LCD surface. (15" LCD has 4.6 times the surface area than a 7" LCD.) So you have to use more aggressive cooling with a small LCD.
