I allway hesitated to use beta-enhancing emitter-follower buffer between the input stage and the VAS, because of it's reputation to be unstable,

Is it true that it's unstable ?

I have used this many times no problem first came across it in the Armstrong 621 amplifier it can reduce actual distortion by a factor of 10 easily
