Hi,guys I was in last forum and the listservices one too.I have the silver faced units from the late 70s early 80s now, including the AA-1640 amp.I have my tv hooked up thru the system and plugged into the cable box to turn the whole system on at once time. The last time I asked if this would work and was told yes but pushing it.I finally acquired all the black faced rack mount system after 2-3 years on ebay but havent checked all of it out to see if they all function properly yet (i am looking for the rack itself tho') my question is can I hook all of the system thru my cable box and preamp to come on without blowing something out?Thanx alot and i am glad I finally located this web page.

Hi:
Yes you can.
Plug the power wire from the preamp , AP 1800 , into the cable box.
Then plug the amp , AA 1800 , small power wire to one of the switched power outlets on the pre. The larger power wire from the amp should go to the socket on the wall. Make sure the rear power switch on the amp is in the remote switch position.
Plug all the other equip. into the switched power outlets on the pre. too.
This will allow you to turn everything on with the cable box.

I do not know what brand TV you have but usually when hooked up this way the clock and sometimes the channel memory does not work. The TV usually must be hooked up to the wall outlet at all times for the clock to operate.
On my set up I turn the TV on seperately from the stereo. I have everything going from a Panamax power conditioner that has power switching cababilities when the power goes off. It waits about 5 seconds to turn on again to protect the equipment from overloads.
Hope this helps
Ed
