So today I am looking at what the guests over over on the Klipsch forum are looking at and up pops a post from 2006 on Cornwalls. BEC and JWC are commenting on actual builds and modifications and it reminded me that there is still a ton of info over there in older threads that Roy has not deleted yet and perhaps never will. It is a reminder to anyone that is interested in mods for Klipsch to spend some time there and get the goodies while you can. Now I have to say there are better tweeters then the venerable CT125 or the newer CT120 but otherwise Crites is still making things to mod your stuff with that are pretty darned good. AND as mentioned in the thread you don't need a sanctified Klipsch SN# to get replacement parts.
I really enjoyed the walk through memory lane and it is a poignant reminder of just how good the forum used to be.

When I decided to restore my H700's and ultimately, modify them, I dove deep into the forum and read the entirety of both of @claudej12000's Super Heresy threads, as well as everything else I could glean on modifying speakers and making something that was already good, better. There was a palpable excitement in those threads that fueled and amplified my own stoke, transforming it into an obsession of sorts. I can say with absolute confidence, that without that information and the encouragement that I received there- ie. if I'd merely shown up a month later, I wouldn't be here now. I would have restored my Heresies and likely would have been just as unimpressed with them as when I saved them from the dumpster, 16 years ago. I would have plugged in a subwoofer and I probably wouldn't have gotten why Klipsch was held in such high regard. I might not have gotten a turntable and would have kept watching movies and streaming stuff over Apple TV the wrong way and would not have been any wiser. I'd probably have saved a ton of money as I would have maintained my more casual relationship to music and the act of listening to it.
Instead, I've shelled out money to get better components to build my Super Heresies, which led to better amps, a pair of subwoofers, better speaker wire and interconnects (I haven't gone full audiophile on that note) and am continuing to contemplate how I can construct a better system; yes, I have tubes on my mind... even worse, I'm spending most of my waking moments thinking about it, building a bigger, better speaker, sketching plans, exchanging DMs, making a wish list of parts, saving links and reading more than I thought I'd ever wanted to know about capacitors and network construction, compression drivers, tractrix vs exponential horns, driver sensitivity and parts cohesion & synergy. I've bought components and spent more on music in the past 10 weeks than in the previous decade. basically, the two of you cost me a lot of money, have ruined my life and I'm enjoying every minute of it. 😉
