I'm thinking of replacing my focal 165w 6.5" speakers in favor of an 8" woofers. What should I buy that won't dissapoint me. I have a budget of around 400, and like to save using Ebay.
I want smooth and clear vocals, and usable bass

Do you want to sell me you focals? How much for them?
I also have a brand new pair of audiobahn 8"s, but they are intended to be subs-not midranges.

I'll sell my focals if and when I find a better replacement first
each drivers perf will differ depending on mounting location -door or kick panel etc. and if your using it for mid-bass duty only or mid-range down to 60-80hz,before spending any more money on drivers i would matt-insulate the car doors as much as possible if that is your intended driver local ,you cant expect much in the mid bass dept if not done, ive had good results with my focal 165w,s, hp 63 hz 24db lp 3-4 k 12 db, pretty good midbass ,but will not compare to a good 8 incher!!parts express will be coming out with the dayton 4 ohm car drivers -very capable line alum cone excellent x-max figures around 7 mm for the 7 inch model, and great midrange the line includes the 225 wich is near 8 in driver, should come out in a mo or two i believe prices for the 7 incher should be under 40.00 ea,if the doors arent matted yet do so and you may be very happy with the results from your focals.
