So I've just had a thought and wondering what peoples reactions are.
I have several spare Sansui HT centre speakers spare with 4R drivers. I put one of my smaller builds on top to see how it looks and I'm wondering if using the tweeter in the already routered hole and simply setting a small book on top holding a 4" midrange would work
Thinking that to make it as easy as possible I could put the existing small box on a drop saw and cut it into two small boxes

It is a tall box so the tweeter is close to seated ear level but I am wondering if the small box on top should be angled down a tad.
Cutting it on a drop saw we should be able to cut a small angle

So I just stuffed that up.
Took the twin driver to my mate next door and cut the box into two small "toppers" and I put the line at the wrong angle [ I simply cannot think in 3-D] and instead of tilting forward at 3 degrees they tilt backwards at 3 degrees. There may be enough meat there to recut but if not I do have one more spare box to play with

I need some help with a problem I don't often encounter.
I need to pad down this little Sansui driver, it is far to hot to use as is, I am mating a nominal 4R driver to dual 16R woofers and I need to drop it at least 3dB, maybe even 4 or 5.
While nominally a 4R driver the DCR is only 2.8Ohms and I am unfamiliar with the two padding options. Is it better to pad before the XO and treat it as a 3.1R driver at the crossover frequency or add the padding after the XO and calculate accordingly?
Because of the tilting issue I may have to use a 3 element array at 300Hz rather than my preferred second order electrical but I'll do that if I must

hi may i ask the model of the sansui speaker? i am impressed by the cabinet execution sincerelyI have a nice pair of Sansui floorstanding speakers here that I wish to convert from a 2-Way into a 3-Way.
The Sansui has dual 8" woofers in a tall box
I have a pair of the Hi-Vi TN28 given to me by rabbitz a while ago to top mount.
I intend to use the existing tweeter position in the top of the box to place a small midrange.
What I am looking for is a driver with an integrated can type assembly that will fit in the existing tweeter hole position,
I have a pair of Foster drivers here but they are 5.5" and too large.
Before I start mucking about with coffee cans and mounting from the rear does anybody know of an existing 100mm midrange with a can of about a litre or so that isn't your typical sealed back mid?
I don't know of any sealed back mid that sounds good crossed over as low as 400Hz, if you do I may be interested if you could post a link
Moreover why not keep the same concept and using better drivers?
Thanks a lot
Why change what are excellent drivers in their own right?
This project is on hold temporarily while I work on a big subwoofer as my daugher has informed me she has no room for something this large. Sorry I have forgotten the model number. I am using what Sansui considered surround rears as my computer speakers tho

Thank you for the kind reply I have searched and found something similarWhy change what are excellent drivers in their own right?

https://classic-hifi.net/product/sansui-ao-2051/ quite nice indeed
I understand that some japanese brands have outsourced to danish companies the design and construction of some of their cheaper models ... and usually it shows
I guess they must quite heavy compared to 1/2" chipboard cabinets i often see

But I have sacrificed one of the spare Sansui centres and I'll be using those drivers even tho I'll need to add in a series resistor to pad them down.
@ginetto61 Yes those are the ones I use as computer speakers, for a short time you could find those as cheap as $20- a pair, but no longer
Hi if you are referring to these https://classic-hifi.net/product/sansui-ao-2051/ if they are built similarly to yours i would buy them immediately@ginetto61 Yes those are the ones I use as computer speakers, for a short time you could find those as cheap as $20- a pair, but no longer
Thick baffle extensive bracing Excellent cabinet design and execution I bet they could sound very very good with some interventions on the xover maybe
