I like circuitmaker. The demo is pretty decent. There's a version on kazaa that removes the time delay thing that kicks you out of the program so you have full functionality. Of course I already bought my copy... It's not that expensive.

I've also used multisim and ultiboard combo but I've found that circuitmaker and traxmaker (comes with it) to be much easier to use. The routing isn't as good but for the circuits we deal with its no big deal. It runs faster and is definitly more stable. I bet you could even run it on a p166 or something old like that.

The circuit analysis is decent, but not as good as multisim.

the free software for the expresspcb service is wonderfully simple to place pads and draw traces.
I think the official output is a gerber file.
I just print it -rescale if I need to-and copy onto a transparency
you may be looking for something more sophisticated?
