Thanks a lot stijn! I persume you are referring to the big bulk WIMA 0.022uf FKP2 PP film and foil caps around the dac chip which are present on the photo? Those were recomended by carlsor, but are out of my system at the moment, they didn't work out. Trebles were to harsh and grainy. Therefore I finished only with two kinds. The Kemet 0.068uf PPS (Mouser - SMR5683J100J03L4) also recommended by carlsor seem to provide what he described, which are a nice, punchy low registers. Cannot compare to the regular ones, as I implemented them right to the new dac, but bass is really nice I can say that (even with sowters on two only boards, driving 4 amps!), The wimas 0,68nF on the analog side should make better integration with highs, especially using Elmas. I took this advice from supersurfer, he did some experiments on that, so I think he is the one with right answer for that 🙂 But as for experience of many owners with that mode, they are very happy. And me too!! :-DImpressive result. I see you replaced all the Wima's, seems to be a mix of three kind. Which ones did you use and why?
Wow! Very creative. I hadn't picked up on the use of the WIMA 0.022uf FKP2's, seems a strange value. I'm thinking about giving the Kemet 0.068uf PPS's a try as well, why did you use the Wima's at the analogue side instead of the Kemet's? As fas as I know nobody has tried these in a multi dac board build (due to their size).
I dare not think about it! 😀 My complete DDDDAC with 5-Chokes and 2-Transformers weight approximately 38kg. How will I be going to drag this monster to the Airport?!? 🙁Just thinking out loud:
2x (seperate channels) +/-15V & +/-8V PSU? That's 16 chokes! (following the current (unofficial) unregulated design). I need to start training my weight lifting 😀😀😀
This will be a next step actually, I have them already at home. Just want to get wimas to burn in a little to see the real difference. For now the dac has been playing for 4 days constant with no problems. Sound is getting better all the time. I'll wait 4-5 more days and then will change Wimas for Kemets.Wow! Very creative. Hi Kris,
Congratulations with your first dac build! I am impressed by the build quality and your approach in building it step by step and not blowing up when applying power ( I have a tendency to be impatient and that usually results in broken parts 🙄).
Have fun listening!
Regards,
PS and when you are used to the sound and want to move up, you can try to change the wave io for a nice embedded streamer 😉

Thanks Stefan! 🙂
Impatience is my second name, so we have something in common, haha.
This time I took everything with big patience though. Maybe because it was this "FIRST TIME" 🙂
As for a streamer. It bounces in my head all the time. But first I have to close one thing for certain.
You can be sure that I will nock to your PM when time comes :-D
I have a big question to anyone who could help.
I'm about to buy R Core transformator. I found that site: R core transformer . They do customised transformers.
Never did it before, would anyone who is oriented well in that matter be so kind to give some tips on what to put special attention when ordering, what would be the best configuration for ideal r core for dac purpose, please?

Don't really know how much can I push with primary's current for let's say 600VA secondaries. What about insulation.
I was planning to make four secondaries with two voltages 2 x 9V and 2 x 21V, I guess power ratio should be 1:2, digi : analog.
Is there anything I should be aware of filling up this form? Is there anything I should ask them to make it an outstanding tranny?
Thanks in advance

Eduard is a huge R Core fan, he should be along in a minute

My vote is for an electrostatic screen.

Thanks Bas and Sovereign. Yes I was considering even double electrostatic screen. I was wondering if there were some less known but important tricks to make it better.
Yes Eduard is explaining to me some things too.
WHen I'll be done with it I will post my config here to confront it with you guys. Maybe someone will find some things to add.
I've been thinking, concidering you have Oscon's/Silmic's and the CCS's in there it's going to take several weeks, not days, for the sound to settle down (but I'm sure you knew that 😉). I would also recommend to give yourselve the time to learn to know it's sound signature which in my case takes a conciderable amount of listening and range of music. Only then does it become clear what's doing what when changing things. But maybe I'm just slow. 😉

Thanks for advice stijn. Recommended burn in is 300h. After naxt 5 days it should reach around 250 hours of playing (24h/day which makes my home full of happy music 🙂. The sound shoud be more or less there. I will play then extra 3 or 4 days after that and then will change for Kemets. I'm pretty sure that both Elnas Silmic and Cerafine will stay put. The only change will be the small wimas - kemets. Wondering for integration with highes frequencies.
Anyone know if the Cinemags can be connected to give balanced output?
i am not sure if i understand you correctly but using an output transformer you can always have a balanced configuration as shown in the attachment.

When not using transformers on output and using balanced xlr, is common still not in use ?
Only connect pin 2+3 and not pin 1 ( ground) ?
Thx

Correct, you can leave this completely out. On the other hand... If you do it is still ok, but you will bring the 2,7V DC to the next stage
