As I ask more and more questions, more and more people tell me to step away and READ! So I am going to take everyone's advice. I am really excited to build an awesome line stage, but I have so many questions. I just went on amazon.com and looked up MJ's books and read just the tables of contents. Wow! My questions are all answered, and I suppose that as I go and have more, I will find that more of my questions are answered. I think that for a while I will step away from this project, and as soon as I find out what textbooks I will be ordering for my fall quarter, I will pull the trigger on these books as well.
Do read the NEETS manual. MJ skips some of the basics and this will fill in the blanks, help get you started, and is available for free.
Also, if it makes you feel better, I have been trying to make a great linestage for about 2 1/2 years now. i am on my 5th iteration which is, at least so far, promising. Some of the others were okay, but none were great. It takes time.

Hello,
I tried to post this the other day:
Thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it and I will read through it while I wait for the $$$ to buy the MJ books! Thanks for all of your help, I will post back here again when I am really ready to start working.
Best,
Colin

I've got the bug again.
Hello all, it has been a while since I have posted here. A few things have happened:
I am working on developing a more modular approach to my setup. I am currently running my SOHA (12AU7 based design) as my preamp, and I am readying to upgrade that with some discrete buffers and such, all of which is detailed over at headwize.com where the designers of the project offer advice. Anyway, I am building a switchbox and a phono amp after that as well, so I am doing some casing upgrades and such. Anyway, I got to thinking more about the 12B4 again.
I want to do it! I will be happy to acquire parts slowly, and I want to do it as cheaply as can be done while still sounding good. In other words, I think I want my budget to be close to $150 or less. That would be my very ideal!
Is the supply detailed earlier in this thread ideal? Or is there a cheaper option with similar utility? Keep in mind that this will be my first p2p build, but I am not really worried about that so much. I am mostly worried about my ability to select appropriate parts, so I am hoping I can get feedback as I go. Anyway, I wanted to revive this thread and try to contribute every now and again (between homework assignments and such!).
Best,
Colin

OK, I am reviewing my BOM, I am somewhat puzzled about all of the Panasonic FC caps I have included, I honestly have no clue what I was planning on doing with them. From what I can tell I need only one cap to bypass Rk, and I will just use what dsavitsk recommended from Digi-Key. I will put together a new BOM sometime this week and repost, hopefully it will be cheaper and all from two locations!
