Ok, cool... I've been testing my stash of tubes and found a 6SA7 that's in really good shape and was wondering if it could be used for anything in a guitar amp.
use grids 2&4 as a line level in, grid 3 for a compressor per Fred Nachbaur?:
"Li'l 4x4" Compressor Option
"Li'l 4x4" Compressor Option
ok, Pete, let me see if I'm anywhere close to understanding this....
grids 2 & 4 wired together for a line-in input and grid 3 as instrument input with the compression fed back into it like in the Li'l 4x4?

Heptodes are noisy. They were designed for mixing or gating, yet with good isolation between the two signal sources. One of the input grids may have variable-mu characteristics which could be used for a compressor.
