a gutar amp I built

I all.

I just built a guitar amp of my own design. I have yet to put it in a cabinet but is working otherwise. It is a low power amp for use in my apartment. Even so I haven't really let it wail in here. Anyway I just thought I would toss the circuit out there in case anyone else wants to try it. It seems to work just fine.

Thank's Greg for the Speaker.

Rolf.

Hi.

I see my little circuit generated zero interest. I thought I would add some pictures anyway. After using it for a while I quite like it, but I am no great judge since it is the only real guitar amp I have used. I used a page from Sy's book and made it a "Green light district"😛 Overdrive sound can be achieved quite well with the tonestack bypassed.

Now I just need to learn to play.:spin:

Cheers.
Rolf.

Hi funky.

No, I have pretty much left it alone. Except for adding the tone bypass switch, it is my original design. The board is pretty crowded to mess around with too much. What difference in sound do you think using a cathode resistor might make? Thicker tone?

Thank's for the encouragement!

Right on jjman. It's a bright dark switch wrapped around the master volume control. Bright setting more effective at low volume, dark at higher volume. the effect is subtle but does add a measure of control over the sound that was very easy to implement.

The choice of tubes has two reasons. First, I already had these tubes except for the 6x4, but also I wanted to do something original. It seems that almost all guitar amps ever made use 12ax7 tubes so I had to use something else. The cascode second stage is to make up for the lower mu of the 6dj8. When I was playing with a 6dj8 cascode in a failed attempt to make a Broskie Janus regulator with it I noticed it distorts quite a bit when pushed hard. That is pretty much how I came up with this.

If I build another one I will try a James tone stack because I have read good reviews from people who have tried it. The two knob fender is just so simple with such a low parts count that it won. This project was getting Complex enough!

Greg.

I sent you an e mail with these pics too.

Cheers.

Hi.

Another picture now that the grill cloth is on. I added a bypass 100uf bypass capacitor to the cascode stage. Now I have the overdrive distortion I was missing. This is available even with the master volume turned right down! Very cool.
