A digitally controlled volume control solution

ybserge,

In case you're interested, here are some sources for more information about using digital potentiometers:

Some interesting points about using digital pots for audio attenuators are covered in Application Note 161 (related to the DS1802), at http://www.maxim-ic.com . You might also be interested in some of their other digital pot appnotes, such as 864, 803, and 3417, and maybe also 2095, 1956, and 838. A list of links to Maxim's digital pot appnotes is at http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes10.cfm/ac_pk/9/ln/en .

And http://www.Intersil.com has appnote 1145, which contains many different application schematics with digital potentiometers.

There are also some ideas in a White Paper, from Dec 2000, by Wolfson Microelectronics Ltd, which also discusses their WM8816 stereo volume control IC. Sorry, I don't have a link; just the PDF.

The datasheets for the Analog Devices AD5227 and AD5220 (and probably others) also have quite a bit of applications information (at http://www.analog.com).

I also have an appnote from dalsemi.com, about the DS1669, that appears to have some possibly-interesting information.

And, at http://www.edn.com (Electronic Design News magazine), I have, in the past, found several articles about digital pots, including one about using inexpensive relays to build a digital pot.

Many other semiconductor manufacturers' websites also have some good appnotes about digital pots.
