How long has your son been at this modelling lark, poundy?

Long enough to have got the hang of simulating wear and tear it appears!

I have an Airfix 1/24 scale Spitfire MK Vb, dare I say it, "waiting in the wings".

And an Airfix electric motor to make the prop spin should I so choose!

Of course, I forgot about that: I even commented on it!

I have a 1/32 Tamiya Mk VIII on the long list of models to do, will do it with the shark mouth scheme.

Not a lot of difference between a Mk IX and VIII, except for the retractable tail wheel and wing leading edge edge fuel tanks on the VIII. The Mk VIII was by contemporary accounts a nicer aircraft to fly. Was mainly used by the RAF in Burma/India, the USAAF in Italy and the RAAF in the South West Pacific.

I forgot about the Mk VIII's pointed rudder, its most distinctive feature! I think there's a Mk 18 at the Bull Creek Air Museum in Bull Creek (Fremantle) WA, but it could be a Mk 22.

I had the priveledge of chatting with the late Flt Lt Ted Sly, RAAF at a Temora air show a few years ago. Ted flew Spitfires and P-40s in the Western Desert and South Pacific and was the originator of the 'shark mouth' insignia on 457 Squadron's Spitfires.

Lovely bloke, very modest about his service. Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to fly the museum's Mk VIII as he was considered too old. The photo is from the Museum's website:

That's a great example of photorealism, poundy!

Wiki tells me that "Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to reproduce the image as realistically as possible in another medium".
