It's ebony.
Hope he's not cutting that without a mask.
AFAIK, ebony's highly poisonous😱
What`s that between the layers of wood that can be seen on this and many other pictures?:

I think it must be this?:

Looks like sheets of lead to me!?
Never seen this but might be indeed a worthwile idea.

this handworks comes in later.
the hole project is during for two years now, and i'am still filtering
before the fineering stage.
i hope the hole will be finished this summer.
an ultemate project, for less money.... you see i'am dutch.
more to find on www.htforum.nl design and making of the violators, have fun.

the material inbetween is lead!
also used in my speakers, decoupling the various of layers
mdf/lead/multiplex/lead/chipwood makes a weight per cabinet of 180 kg plus.

according to the post, the Chinese diyer use the lead plate also, and the weight of per cabinet is 160KG 😱 .less than 180KG 😉
My prototype ULTOR-XTM loudspeakers from my earlier avatar weigh 350 lbs. each. Thats 160 kg also. About 120 lbs of that is sand.
Hi X.G.,
thanks for your kind replies.
I think avalon's x-overs are "top secret". If you like Sentinel sound
you like exactly that x-over. A different filter can be similar but not the same. Mine is a stupid consideration obvious, but sometimes a perfect built clone is only 20% of the result. IMHO 80% are x-over and "voicing".
Anyway your Sentinel looks wonderful and sure it is a fantastic adventure! All my envy........... 🙂
Cheers,
Inertial

there is far more lead in my speakers....
in the top, in the mid and the bottom section.
see pic. all the grey lines
notice that the part is built of several structures perpictial!!
also built of different thickness layers of mdf/plywood/multiplex.
i try to find some pictures of teh building process later.

Ah my mistake, I thought you were building the clones XG. Still very nice work nontheless.
It is fun to see that I am famous in China as well with my project
building the xXx-speakers with a strong resemblence to the Avalon Sentinel...
The Chinese guy uses nearly 80 percent of my dutch pictures...I really wonder why...
Any way as one hobby guy to the other I take it no harm intended....
But for the record I will provide you with the appropriate link...
I think I am a little bit entitled to...hey....it took me 2 years to built with an average of 2 hours a day....
Unfortunately it is in dutch but with loads of pics and 100.000 hits....
My homepage is in english...
Have fun

Hi Erik, nice to see you here.
yes unfortunately nearly everthing is copied and quick too!!
after a posting about the lead , it took only a few hours to appear it on the chinamans site.
but come on , you have the fun of listening to a fablulous pice of equipment so i heard myself.
there is nothing better than listen to your own made cabinets.
and as always , good things are copied.
Ruud.

X.G what is GuangDong like? is that near Shaolin?
oh...
Guangdong is one province of China and in the south of mainland.Do you know Guangzhou?it is the center city of Guangdong province
Shaolin?is it the name of chinese most famous temple?I think you must be interested in Chinese gongfu, right?
Very nice to hear he is enjoying his set....he mailed me...
...they are not finished....so that was probably about the looks...😉
He asked me some details...maybe you can post them for him in chinese...
I have a passive filter custom built by a pro...who preferred not to be mentioned.
The subs are active filtered by a Bryston.
I use a total of four identical amps namely the Aitos 80 OTL.
The units are all ceramique except the tweeter that's a diamond.
Completely silver wired.
Subs (sides) are sand-filled which makes the xXx-Speakers approx. 250 kg per side.
Filtercabinets are massive ebony with abalone-inlay
Total costs about 20.000 Euro's.
Any other questions from him I am glad to answer
😉
