scart
scart is/was in EUROPE the best, safest and easiest way to connect video devices such as tv's with vcr's etc etc...
it's a rectangular uneven sided connector and never could you make a mistake to connect in with in or audio with video etc etc... as it was all located in one connector.
I think the americans have killed the idea (it was not their invention you see) but the european market has had it for a number of years.
(back in the days I had a cable coming from the commodore going into a vcr SCART using the vcr as a tapedrive. all the software i had was backed up on 4 tapes (120 minutes) it if i remember well there were about 1200 titles on it.)
oops almost forgot scart did have the RGB instead of the one signal!

vga to video
I think the only 'cheap' solution is this one on eBay
VGA to TV converter - NTSC/PAL A I Tech
Item # 3400086876
the other solution (cable) is no good, you need a videocard in your pc that has a TV out.
They also have one that goes to a scart cable, but i bet you do not have a female scart in your tv (or it should be Grundig or ITT/NOKIA or similar)
