Isn’t the 6c19p equivalent to half a 6AS7 ? - many SE amps have been built with those and my own experience is that it sounds v nice, never harsh. The only tubes that I’ve ever found harsh are pentodes/tetrodes and usually higher transconductance. I don’t believe the 6c19p should sound harsh but why you are finding it to be the case I’m not sure. I think the culprit is most likely your choice of the operating point and load; suggest you try changes to this rather than swapping out parts and trying different tube types. Seems to me that it’s too early to give up for a man who’s approach is one of tinkering until he finds the right sound. For example, can you run it at higher current and lower voltage along with a smaller anode load of 2k ?
