I thought you were trying to use the 5AR4 before? It's too much trouble really. I am considering 5ar4 this time
Valve rectifiers really aren't a huge hassle, you just have to limit the capacitance in the filter to prevent massive charging currents making your rectifier and transformer unhappy. Plus, they have to be used properly! That circuit you posted before will not work whether you were using thermionic or silicon rectifiers.
Lhchen, some of the stuff in this thread worries me a bit...
Experimenting is good, but only if its safe. You are dealing with high voltages which could cause fire, injury or even death and I'm getting the impression that your knowledge of the basics is fairly limited.
I have a rule for myself which I recommend to you:
Don't build it unless you understand it
There are safe ways of trying out ideas such as excellent simulation software which allows you to get a good idea of how your circuit will perform before you build it. Have a look at www.duncanamps.com where you can download the excellent psu designer software for free.
Sorry if I sound patronising, but I would prefer that you stayed alive long enough to argue with me

Worth repaeting when dealing with many V

Hi all,
I don't know too much about tubes, but I do know how to protect myself.
I ususally use hammond transformer. They always provide a center tap. I ignored this part while I got a Lundahl transformer. I think many people have been misleaded by me too... Sorry.
